This book is the first book (out of the WWI books that I have read) that has really made me think and feel what I was like for the soldiers of the First World War. About how they felt and what they thought.
The story is based on a boy called Thomas Peaceful who is lying in a trench at night, thinking back to all the precious moments he could remember from his childhood. From his first day at the local school to the time at that moment when he is in the trenches re-living his life, he makes the most of every minute because he knows that the next day could be his dying day.
His idolised older brother always looks after him no matter what. Which puts Charlie Peaceful (Thomas' older brother) into a very dangerous position. Thomas is put through the many of the dangers and horrors of the War. Some of these horrors are; seeing his friends he had known all his life die all around him, and a deadly gas attack with his whole life held on the reliability of a gas mask.
Flabbergasting!!!!! An absolutely unbelievable read. Phenominal! 10/10!
